About

I'm the co-founder of Invantory, a classifieds app and platform. If you're interested in receiving product updates or getting Invantory in your community, please leave your email address here.

My passion is creating digital media products that empower people and improve their lives. Nothing brings me more joy than working with a great team to develop a cool, innovative product, and successfully bringing it to market. Friends and colleagues know that I value hard work, honesty, and creativity. I am always eager to dive into the next challenge and learn from the people around me to find the best way forward.

I have worked in the media industry for most of my career. There have been many twists and turns, including a stint in the British music business and a six-year residence in Taipei, where I learned Mandarin and worked for a local TV network and newspaper. It was while I lived overseas that I encountered the World Wide Web for the first time. I was immediately inspired by the power of this new platform. After learning HTML and other foundation technologies of the Web, I started a career in the online world.

Over the next decade, I did everything from building websites to managing online editorial teams for several tech news publications, including The Industry Standard. I also launched numerous blogs, created or managed niche communities, and devised online marketing campaigns to promote them all.

In 2011, I completed MIT's Sloan Fellows Program in Innovation and Global Leadership. While at the institute, I split my time between business-focused classes at Sloan and coursework at the MIT Media Lab, CSAIL, and the Comparative Media Studies department. I took part in the MIT 100K Competition, travelled to Vietnam to advise a local startup on its mobile strategy, and participated in the development of two mobile educational games, several business plans, and a software demo for a futuristic television app. I remain connected to the institute through my startup activities and the extensive MIT network.

I operated a popular blog about Harvard Extension from 2005 to 2008. You can find other samples of my writing about technology topics on Computerworld.com and Terra Nova. Essays and op-eds have appeared in the South China Morning Post, the Economist Intelligence Unit, Baseline Scenario, The American, Case Currents, and the PBS and BBC World Service websites. I am also the lead author of an MIT Sloan case on innovation at Nintendo, and co-authored a workshop paper for the IEEE 2012 Consumer Communications and Networking Conference.
